General Info About Fresno County

Fresno County, officially the County of Fresno, is a county located in the northern part of California. Fresno is the fifth largest city in the entire state. 

This area is also the traditional homeland of Yokuts and Mono peoples, and was later discovered by Spaniards during a search for suitable mission sites. This area became part of the US in 1846 as a result of the Mexican War.

IHSS Info In Fresno County

The In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program provides payment for non-medical in-home care for qualified individuals who are unable to remain safely in their homes without this assistance.

To be eligible for IHSS, an individual must be Medi-Cal eligible or must be receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits.

The applicant must be 65 years or older, blind, and/or be a disabled child or adult. IHSS includes a wide range of services for those who qualify. Individuals who qualify for IHSS may also qualify for CalFresh, formerly known as the food stamp program.

How to Apply for IHSS in Fresno County

To apply for IHSS, you can get an application from the Fresno County website.

Individuals interested in learning more about the IHSS program or would like to refer themselves or make a referral on the behalf of someone.  

You have two options. You can complete the online referral for application and an IHSS Social Worker will call within 1-3 business days to complete an application by phone. Or you can call (559) 600-6666 and chose Option 1 to apply over the phone.
